Forum participants gathered to share ideas and
recommendations for improving quality of life
in retirement destinations in Mexico.
In December 2011, the International Community Foundation organized the first "National Forum on the North American Retiree Community: Expectations & Options for Living in Mexico," attended by 46 U.S. and Canadian expats from retirement destinations in Mexico, plus Mexican federal and state government officials from nine states. Secretary of Tourism, Gloria Guevara, opened the plenary with a commitment to engage the U.S. expatriate community in sharing their Mexican experiences with other visitors, pledging her team at SECTUR to follow up on recommendations from the forum. Nathan Wolf, from the Secretariat of Foreign Relations, echoed Secretary Guevara's enthusiasm for connecting to this important constituency. The notes from the breakout groups can be found below.
