Dance
Dance is becoming
more popular in Baja California Sur, especially folkloric dance,
both as regional dance and as a national symbol. Among the most
important dances, and as evidence of the cultural wealth of the
state, are “la Danza de los Caņeros” and “La Flor de la
Pitahaya.” Folkloric dancing is usually taught in elementary
schools as part of school festivals. Upper grades have more
intensive dance training workshops, including most senior high
schools and higher education institutions in the state.
The other dancing
genres that are taught in the state are ballet, modern, Polynesian,
Hawaiian, Spanish, and Arab. These dance forms are mainly taught in
private schools, and are neither free nor open to the public; the
same is true regarding their performances.
