Letter to Donors & Friends

Dear Donors and Friends,
As our world becomes more interdependent, and growing economic turmoil challenges regions around the globe, the International Community Foundation continues to be a valuable partner and resource to nonprofits and communities in the region we serve, particularly in Mexico and Central America. We continue to provide a wide range of grants to support schools, environmental and health initiatives, and the development of civil and philanthropic infrastructure as a means to tackle the host of challenges facing the diverse communities we remain active in.

Over the past year, the Foundation awarded 86 grants totaling over $4.6 million to 51 nonprofit organizations internationally. These grants provided pro-active solutions to critical issues such as the cross-border challenges of HIV/AIDS in the San Diego/Tijuana border region; poverty alleviation in economically marginalized communities of Oaxaca, Mexico and Guatemala; and providing humanitarian assistance to natural disasters and flooding relief efforts in Tabasco and Chiapas. We also supported initiatives that promoted the rule of law by strengthening civil society based environmental legal defense initiatives in both Mexico and Panama.

In the last year, the International Community Foundation also made dramatic strides in relocating its headquarters and planting permanent roots in National City, California located in South San Diego County. This was accomplished thanks to the generosity of Christy Walton and her husband, the late John Walton, and the support of the Walton Family Foundation. The Foundation is now busy working to maximize the charitable benefit of this unique asset and furthering our organizational mission to increase philanthropy internationally while at the same time giving back to our newly adopted border community in San Diego's South Bay.

While the challenges confronting our world today are many, we take comfort in knowing that we have committed donors and friends like you who have the passion and dedication to continue addressing critical issues throughout the world. There is no doubt that together, we will continue to make the world a better place to live, one community at a time. Thank you for all that you do!
