LETTER to ICF DONORS and FRIENDS

ICF – a community of donors
committed to making a difference across borders

Dear Friends,

The International Community Foundation (ICF) was formed with the vision of creating a community of donors committed to making the world a better place through charitable grantmaking across international borders. Over the past fourteen years, this vision has been collectively realized through the generosity of our many donors and volunteers that have given of their time, experience and financial resources to communities across the Americas and Asia.

During the past fiscal year, over 250 donors increased their contributions to their respective donor-advised funds and other "Friends of" funds by close to $3.2 million. Over $2.5 million in grants and charitable expenditures were made to 123 nonprofit organizations and other charitable causes.

Given ICF’s close proximity to Baja California, ICF has been strategically focused on expanding charitable giving along the peninsula. Since 2002, ICF’s support to nonprofits and charitable causes throughout Baja California has exceeded $1.1 million.

While our level of international giving continues to grow, our staff and Board of Governors have been working closely to expand the level of the grantmaking "due diligence" through strengthened grant management procedures, increased frequency of site visits to grantee project locations, and external programmatic audits to ensure that the foundation is in full compliance with the U.S. Patriot Act and the U.S. Treasury Department’s voluntary guidelines for international grantmaking.

ICF has also embarked on promoting the long-term sustainability of the foundation by initiating an endowment campaign. Here we are grateful to ICF’s past President and CEO Lucy Killea and the support of two of our founding donors, Deborah Szekely and Alice Tang, for their support of this effort.

Richard Kiy and Leon Reinhart

We are grateful for the commitment and dedication of the members of our Board of Governors who have directed ICF with prudence, wisdom and steadfast diligence. We extend thanks to our departing board members, Robert Morris and Raul Hinojosa Ojeda, for their years of service and welcome their on-going involvement with ICF as members of the newly-formed Advisory Board.

ICF’s staff, board and volunteers continue to work hard to respond to the changing needs of our donors and the communities that we serve. We believe our accomplishments during the past fiscal year clearly demonstrate that ICF is emerging as an important leader and change agent in promoting cross-border philanthropy along the border, Baja California Peninsula and beyond.

Looking toward the coming year, we expect to work closely with you as we further our mission of expanding the level of charitable giving across international borders.

Sincerely,
Leon Reinhart
Chairman, Board of Governors
