To promote understanding beyond our borders, ICF began administering the Avery China Adventure Program in 2004. This unique program recognizes the adventurous spirit of Stan Avery’s original China expedition in 1929 by encouraging others to undertake similar pursuits. The Avery China Adventure Program provides annual funding for individuals to pursue China-related interests. The program is open to students, recent graduates, staff and faculty of selected Southern California-based academic institutions. This year, ICF funded 62 projects, from nine different colleges, ranging from researching the role of Muslim women and women’s mosques in China, to putting together a documentary about Chinese independent films.
