The British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) World News Service featured ICF’s support of an innovative micro-credit program by the Oaxaca-based nonprofit CENTEOTL. The ICF grant, funded by donations through Mexican migrants living in San Diego, catalyzed 12 micro-credit loans in the town of El Trapiche totaling US$5,500 in 2002. The loans helped local entrepreneurs invest primarily in agriculture, horticulture, and retail businesses. All the loans were repaid during the first year, and CENTEOTL is on its second round of micro-lending with 20 loans.
