A groundskeeper at Caltech who grew up with a learning disability wanted to find out how similarly situated Chinese children are educated.

Twin sisters, both graduates of Scripps College, tracked down the tiny village from which their parents had emigrated. They met many relatives for the first time and recorded family histories and folk tales in the region's obscure dialect.
