With the vast majority of charities in the region now working to close their fiscal years today, some tough choices will need to be made as individual U.S. donors tighten their belts and foundations, large and small, begin to reevaluate and, in some cases, cut available funding for grantmaking in 2009.

Year End Giving Tips
IRA Rollover Extended through December 2009!
The U.S. Congress’ recently enacted $700 billion economic bailout bill (H.R. 1424, The Financial Rescue Package) that included a two-year extension of the IRA Rollover provision permitting donors over the age of 70 ½ to make chartable gifts directly from a traditional or Roth individual Retirement Account (IRA) without incurring federal income taxes. The provision will be made retroactive to January 1, 2008, and will apply to gifts made from that date through December 31, 2009.
