International Community Foundation takes on expanded leadership role in Border Philanthropy Partnership
![]() For the past six years, the International Community Foundation has been an active member of the U.S.-Mexico Border Philanthropy Partnership (BPP), a partnership of 19 border area community foundations and 12 funding partners that improves quality of life for low-income border families and communities by strengthening foundations and promoting local philanthropy. Since its inception the BPP has leveraged $20 million to strengthen the capacity of border foundations and assets across all the foundations have increased by $230 million
Previously managed by New York based Synergos Institute, in August 2008 the partnership has been re-launched as an independent membership organization with a focus on expanding its initial core membership beyond community foundations to include other funders (private, public, corporate & family foundations) and individuals committed to doing more to address the critical socio-economic challenges along the US-Mexico border. The International Community Foundation is playing a critical leadership role in supporting the BPP’s organizational development, serving as the institution’s fiscal sponsor and providing critical back office support as the organization awaits the confirmation of its 501c3 nonprofit status. Additionally, Richard Kiy, ICF’s President & CEO, is now serving as the BPP’s U.S.-Co Chair together with Karen Yarza, Executive Director of the Fundación Comunitaria de la Frontera Norte who is providing critical leadership for the organization in Mexico. According to Kiy, “the U.S-Mexico border remains a priority region for the International Community Foundation and our foundation is proud and honored to be able to support BPP to help this binational partnership achieve its true potential.” For more information on the U.S.-Mexico Border Philanthropy Partnership or to become a member, please contact Christiana DeBenedict at Christiana@borderpartnership.org or via phone at (619) 814-1386.
