ICF RECEIVES GIFT OF FORMER
WALTON RESIDENCE
A historic home in National City will soon house ICF
and its efforts to facilitate bi-national programs. ICF
was gifted the former home of Christy and the late
John Walton, which sits on 6.85 acres and features an
organic garden. The Queen Anne style Victorian home
was originally built by Oliver Noyes, National City's
first Postmaster, in 1896.
The Walton family has been supportive of ICF's work
in promoting bi-national philanthropic programs,
initiatives and dialogue between the U.S. and Mexico.
The gift will allow ICF to continue in its mission through
the planned establishment of the Center for Cross
Border Philanthropy on the property. The former
Walton home will also be the new office location for
ICF.
Pending approvals from the National City Planning
Commission and City Council, ICF’s planned center
will include a meeting facility for nonprofit
organizations and community leaders from throughout
the country to better understand the impact of
globalization and human migration. The center will
also provide a place to promote peer-to-peer learning
with the goal of expanding cross-border philanthropy
and volunteerism.
ICF will also maintain the home’s existing organic
gardens and will partner with local health and
community-based nonprofit organizations to promote
cross-border healthy eating programs. Programs will
be aimed at diabetes and cancer prevention, as well as
educational outreach programs in the area of
environmental education for school children and youth
in National City and other communities. |
