New International Community Foundation board member Roi L. Ewell, Vice President of Human Resources for Sea World San Diego / Anheuser-Busch, says he wasn't looking to become part of the organization until he learned about its mission.

"It wasn't something I intentionally sought out, but once I learned about the charter, I was impressed," he said. "To make a difference in some regions of the world, evaluating donor contributions, that is a significant role to bear for a significant cause."

Ewell brings an impressive business background in marketing, media relations, and human resources to the foundation. In his current Sea World position, he oversees all personnel matters relating to the park's 4,000 employees. His duties also include safety and risk management as well as government and community relations.

He arrived at Sea World in 2002, coming from St. Louis, where he was senior group director of corporate marketing and communications for Anheuser-Busch, the parent of Sea World. Half of his 18 years with the company has been with the corporate operations and half with theme parks, also working at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Ewell began his career in broadcast radio and television before moving to Computer Sciences Corp., Tenneco and Avon Products, where he held positions in human resources, public relations and corporate promotions.

"Moving to San Diego, I have probably been more sensitive than ever before to border relations, he said.

Ewell believes his background in communications and human resources could well serve the International Community Foundation.

"It's a very exciting organization both from a board and a staff point of view," he said. "When you look at the dynamics of having international recipients of grants in entrepreneurship, the environment and education, it's a wonderful organization with which to be aligned."

"I'm eager to contribute," Ewell said. "And I'm looking forward to working with an exciting board and staff and moving the needle further."
