ICF Launches Border Health Public Advocacy Campaign to increase Charitable Giving to Baja California based health nonprofits

008

In October, ICF launched a border health public advocacy campaign to expand public awareness about emerging cross-border health challenges as well as increase the level of charitable contributions to support for Baja California based nonprofits addressing critical health needs in the border region.

A key element of the campaign was the release of a video mini-documentary entitled, “Fragile Lives: Blurring Lines: Addressing the Critical Health Challenges in the San Diego-Baja California border region highlighting some of the growing cross-border health care challenges, in particular tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS,  diabetes and obesity.  The video, which as made possible thanks to support from United Healthcare,  also showcased the work of several border health nonprofits such as Fronteras Unidas Pro Salud, Hospital Infantil de las Californias, CODET, and the Tijuana General Hospital Auxiliary Group among others.

The goal of ICF's border health public advocacy campaign is to improve the quality and level of health care access for the under-served migrant population living in the California-Mexico border region.   ICF seeks to achieve it objective by expanding the level of charitable giving (donor advised and discretarary), as well as by better informing and educating policymakers and local and regional businesses leaders about the border region's most pressing health care needs.

Over the past two years, the International Community Foundation (ICF) has been wONGorking to increase the level of charitable giving focused in the area of border heath.   In June 2006 ICF issued the report,"Shared Destiny: Shaping a Binational Agenda for Health Priorities in the San Diego - Baja California Border Region.
