International Community Foundation Presents at the Council on Foundations’ Family Foundation Conference

On Monday, February 1st, 2010, Program Officer Julieta Mendez co-facilitated a session on international giving at the Council on Foundation’s Family Foundation Conference where over 60 foundation representatives gathered to talk about the current trends of international U.S. giving. Topics ranged from creating sustainable families and communities in Guatemala, supporting grassroots environmental organizations globally, rebuilding and development efforts in Haiti (pre and post earthquake), global human rights, specifically looking at the struggles being faced by the LGBTQ community in Uganda, and the various mechanisms that are currently being developed by the United States International Grantmaking project to facilitate international giving.  The session, titled “Sharing Struggles and Strategies: Creating Change through International Family Philanthropy” featured Anthony Colon, Executive Director of the Greene Family Foundation (and session designer), Julie Dorf, Senior Advisor for The Council for Global Equality, Randie Reinhart, Trustee and Founder of the Reinhart Humanitarian Foundation, Chet Tchozewski, President of Global Greengrants, and co-facilitator Brooke Jordan of the Cricket Island Foundation.
