REINHART FOUNDATION FUND ESTABLISHED

ICF has received $875,000 to establish the Reinhart Foundation Fund to facilitate various grants. Amongst other philanthropic intentions, there will be a focus on education and archaeology in Mexico. The Reinhart family is interested in increasing the level of educational attainment among children in Mexican public schools. Here the Reinhart’s are focusing specifically on keeping children in school through high school. Through their past voluntary efforts, the Reinhart family have had success working in under-served Mexican communities with parents to appreciate the importance of their children’s education. These efforts are important as according to the Mexican Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) more than 25% of Mexican school kids do not go on to middle school. Since 1993, more than 1 million young people dropped out of secondary school and almost another million never even matriculated.

The Reinhart Foundation Fund will also support archaeological projects of the Olmec and Maya cultures in the Mesoamerica region with an emphasis in Mexico and Guatemala. The Reinhart’s believe that archaeology should be exposed to the present day public given the rich culture that existed during the Maya and Olmec periods (1500 b.c. to 900 a.d.), unique to the world at the time. It is a heritage Mexicans can be proud of. Mexican archaeology has been a strong passion for Leon and Randie Reinhart. Making archaeological discoveries available to the world is one of their major goals.
