Los
Niños de Baja California, A.C.
was awarded $6,853 to provide support to purchase a
van to transport people from their neighborhoods to
the Aldea Ecológica and Los Niños projects
at Ecoparque.
El
Colegio de la Frontera Norte, A.C. received
$10,000 for the creation of two temporary classrooms
to hold session for children visiting Ecoparque. Five
thousand dollars of the grant will go towards developing
a strategic plan for land use and infrastructure to
build an Environmental Education Center at Ecoparque.
COLEF was also awarded a $13,000 grant to support research
that will examine the social and economic linkages between
migrant and settled populations in Tijuana and San Diego
County. A third grant for $6,853 was issued to this
Tijuana-based research institution to cover expenses
related to the seminar “Regional Reflections on
the 2002 World Summit: Equity and Sustainable Development
in the U.S.-Mexico Border Region.” The academic
seminar will held December 5-6, 2002.
Esperanza
International, Inc.
received $6,923 for the completion of the phase two
of Pueblo Esperanza in La Gloria, Tijuana.
Provincia
Mexicana del Instituto de Nuesta Sra. de la Caridad
used
their $6,000 grant to remodel a section of the Provincial
house to be used for training new members of the order.
Patronato
Pro-Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos de Ensenada, A.C.
was awarded $19,000 to support the purchase of fire
hoses and make improvement to fire trucks.
Universidad
Iberoamericana
was awarded over $30,000 to support the on-going construction
of the Loyola Library in Playas de Tijuana, Baja California.

was awarded $2,000 for scholarships.

was awarded $7,500 to support the Aldea Ecológica
program in Tijuana. This grant will provide operational
support for staff salaries, office materials, and $1,000
towards purchasing a van.

was granted $4,600 for their annual educational publication,
two informational signs and producing brochures.
Shanghai
City Nanhui District Teacher's Foundation
received a total of $60,000. Of that, $37,500 went to
Xiangnong Agricultural Technology Middle School for
construction of a new teaching building and $22,500
for the construction of nine new primary schools in
Gaungnan.
London
Health Sciences Foundation
received $100,000 to help fund a clinical study related
to sleep disordered breathing in professional football
players.
Centro
de Artes Escénicas del Noroeste, A.C.
received $1,600 to promote a concert of traditional
ethnic-based music among Baja California donor businessmen
to raise funds for CECUT's scholarships program.
Fundación
Villa Esperanza, A.C.
was awarded $5,560 to furnish part of the Gessel Therapy
Room in "Casa Hogar para Varones" and orphanage
for boys. The grant will serve to provide a video recorder,
microphone, closed circuit T.V., and a room.

was awarded $5,000 to cover expenses related to the
Filantropía 2002 event.

Unidas Pro Salud, A.C.
received $5,000 for general support to Frontera's Baja
Pro Salud Golf Tournament 2002.
The
San Diego Foundation
was awarded $22,000 for regranting to the Combined Organization
for the Visual Arts (COVA) for its Border Arts Workshop
Initiative outreach in Baja California. The grant supports
work in the community of Maclovio Rojas Women's Center
and Youth Sports Facility.

Tarpuy, Córdoba, Argentina
was awarded a $1,000 grant to support general operating
costs associated with a scholarship program for students
in the area of technological development, scientific
creativity, and artistic and cultural activities.

y Conservación de Mamíferos Marinos de
Ensenada, A.C. (ICMME)
was awarded $20,000 to contribute with baseline data
to the proposed Bahía de Los Angeles National
Park by assessing the diversity, distribution, and abundance
of cetaceans in Canal de Ballenas and Canal Salsipuedes
with boat surveys and photoidentification and to initiate
an environmental education program for the Bahía
de Los Angeles community specific to marine mammal diversity
and conservation.

Esteros, Lagunas y Marismas de las Californias, A.C.
received $20,000 to support the establishment of a community
group to protect the Mona Estuary of Bahía de
los Angeles.
Pronatura
Noroeste-Mar de Cortés, A.C.
received $20,000 to train local residents from Bahía
de Los Angeles to serve as managers of the proposed
Bahía de Los Angeles National Park.
Conservación
del Territorio Insular Mexicano, A.C. (ISLA)
was awarded $20,000 to work with the communities and
sport-fishing stakeholders to obtain the basic information
to involve them in the conservation, management and
appropriate economic activities related to marine protected
areas and enlist their support for the activities of
the park staff.
Comunidad
y Biodiversidad, A.C. (COBI) was
awarded $20,000 for the design and evaluation of no-take
(no fishing) marine reserves: a strategy for managing
the Gulf of California marine ecosystem.
Grupo
Ecologista Antares, A.C. (GEA),
a group based in Loreto, B.C.S. received $20,000 for
one of three monitoring stations within the Park to
aid in effective enforcement of fishing and other use
regulations.
Pro
Peninsula,
a San Diego based non-profit organization received $20,000
for the establishment of a Bahía de Los Angeles
Park Visitor/Community Center.
Wildcoast,
an Imperial Beach based non-profit organization was
awarded $20,000 to undertake the communications effort
at the local, state and national level to build a constituency
in favor of the establishment of the Bahía de
los Angeles National Marine Park.
The
Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans,
Inc., (CEDO)
a U.S. based non-profit organization was awarded $20,000
for preparation of a bilingual comprehensive resource
book on the Upper Gulf of California and Colorado River
Delta Biosphere Reserve.
