Back Country Land Trust
received $4,000 to create
an internship position to accomplish specific programmatic
goals in support of the proposed Las Californias Conservation
Area in cooperation with Pronatura, A.C.
Fundacion
del Empresariado Chihuahuense
was awarded $20,500 to provide charitable support to
organizations in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Fundacion
Villa Esperanza received a grant of $4,440
to provide charitable support to organize a fundraising
event for Centro de Atencion a la Violencia Intrafamiliar
(CAVIM).
Give2Asia
was awarded $17,500
to provide support to Afghan street working children
and new approach (ASCHIANA) for their work in providing
direct food aid to children in Afghanistan.
Mainly
Mozart received $7,000
as a final grant to support musician fees and educational
programs to primary schools associated with the Orchestra
of the Californias and Cuarteto Latinoamericano held
in La Paz, B.C.S., Tijuana, B.C., and Mexicali, B.C.
from February 7-17, 2002.
Museo
Sol del Niño received a grant of $10,000
to implement their Summer 2002 workshops on science,
technology and the environment.
The
Natural Heritage Foundation, Inc. was awarded $2,000
to cover part of the transportation expenses of donated
school and medical supplies/equipment, including computers
and typewriters from in-kind gifts made from the Eugene,
Oregon area. The in-kind donations will reach 15 identified
non-profit agencies in the community of Quetzaltenango,
Guatemala.
Project
Mercy received $8,000
to support home rebuilding efforts for the Tijuana fire
victims. Pronatura, AC Peninsula Noreste/Mar de Cortes
was awarded $26,000 to support the development conservation
and sustainable development programs and projects in
Baja California; and $54,292 to undertake a review of
land ownership, provide geographic information systems
(GIS) support, undertake a review of critical biological
and cultural resources of importance along the Tijuana-Tecate
corridor and surrounding area, and preparation of a
preliminary conservation plan.
The
San Diego State University Foundation was awarded $29,000
to identify and integrate all available data sources
(GIS, Aerial Photographs, Maps, Reports) specific to
the binational region along the Tijuana- Tecate corridor
in support of the Las California binational conservation
area initiative.
Sociedad de Historia
Natural Niparaja A.C. was awarded $1,500
to support the Fourth Conference of Baja California
Sur Coalition of Conservation and Sustainable Development
Non Profit Organizations which was held April 24-27,
2002 in La Paz Baja California Sur.
UCSD
was awarded $34,000
to support research on a "community based study
of Mexican Immigrants in San Diego County" in partnership
with UCLA's North American and intergation Center (NAID).
Visión
Ensenada 2025 was awarded $5,000
to cover the cost of educational outreach related to
the proposed Escalera Nautica or Nautical Ladder project
planned for Baja California. The funding permitted the
grantee to re-print the Earth Day edition of La Jornanda
Ecologica which featured a wide range of articles (pro
and con) specific to this controversial tourist development
