GIVING

As the season to show our love for others approaches, let the International Community Foundation (ICF) assist you in your philanthropy (active effort to promote human well being).

There are many ways to give and optimize the outcome of your involvement. Giving through ICF can help you gain the maximum tax benefits for international and domestic giving. Whether you would like to contribute stock or establish a fund give us a call; ICF will be able to guide you through your grant-making experience and provide follow up services.

CROSSROADS

Join ICF Board Member, Chancellor Augie Gallego on our next CROSSROADS visit scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, 2000, at 11am. CROSSROADS is an ICF program that highlights non-profits in Tijuana during a brief tour. This time the visit will be to The Eudist Home for Girls and its vocational training center. The visit will be followed by a lunch at Saverios in Tijuana.

The Eudist Home for Girls provides a place for girls who have no other shelter; many are orphans, some have run away from home, others have escaped abusive situations. The Home is run by the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, an order of Catholic nuns with a 350-year history of caring for abused women. This Home is the only facility of its kind in the Baja California region. Educational opportunities for poor women in Tijuana are difficult to find and the need for a vocational training center is great. The center offers classes emphasizing English as a second language and computer usage, two highly marketable skills. A young woman with these skills can earn five times more than someone lacking them. To sign up for the tour, call Erin Swadener no later than October 27, at 619.235.2300 Ext. 360.

THE INTERNATIONALISTS

ICF is designing a new support group, The Internationalists, to provide a forum for discussion of San Diego's increasingly important role as an international city. It will provide an opportunity for San Diego leaders to join with others who wish to foster transnational efforts.

Malin Burnham is the Chairman. The Internationalists' initial charter members include Christy Walton, Dr. Robert Chang, and Leon Reinhart.

Its Chairman and others are currently expanding participation in The Internationalists. Contributions from its members will enhance the outreach of the International Community Foundation throughout Latin America and Asia Pacific.

The Internationalists will gather from time to time during the year to informally explore international issues and to enjoy the opportunity to interact with international specialists during gatherings.

WAY TO GO LUCY

This month, ICF President & CEO, Lucy Killea will be the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award given on October 21 by the San Diego Chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America.

Recipients of the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award are San Diegans chosen on the basis of involvement in issues beyond U.S. borders, involvement and support of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, dedication in work and personal life to basic human rights such as education, aiding the poor, etc., and support of women's rights and women's issues.

The Board of Governors extends its sincere appreciation to San Diegans for helping Lucy earn this distinction through their goodwill and support of the International Community Foundation.

The following week, on October 25, Lucy will also be inducted into the San Diego County Taxpayers Association Hall of Fame for her long -standing public service and advocacy on behalf of the region's taxpayers.

This year the San Diego Tax Payers Association is celebrating its 55th anniversary by introducing the San Diego Taxpayers Association Hall of Fame. Six other San Diegans will be inducted into this first Hall of Fame. Inductees were selected from two categories: Public Officials and Tax Watchdogs.

Lucy's integrity and continued popularity in the San Diego area is clear evidence of the appropriateness of this honor.
