DECEMBER 31ST COUNTDOWN

So you have waited all year to provide philanthropic support to that nonprofit outside the United States. Let the International Community Foundation (ICF) help you.

Set up an advised fund at ICF by December 31st and you can plan distributions from the fund throughout the following year. That way you can take your time to review and evaluate the recipient organizations and optimize the outcome of your involvement.

Giving through ICF can help you gain the maximum tax benefits for international and domestic giving. ICF will be able to guide you through your grant-making experience and provide follow up services.

NEW FUNDS

We are pleased to collaborate with the following donors to assist in their philanthropic efforts: Augie Gallego, Chancellor of the San Diego Community College District, established the Gallego Family Fund. The purpose of the fund is to provide general charitable support.

Sempra Energy established the Sempra Energy Int'l Community Investment Fund. The purpose of the fund is to provide general charitable support to organizations outside the United States.
DONATIONS RECEIVED

Recently, ICF received over $47,600 for its operating fund. The generous donors include: The Dr. Seuss Fund at the San Diego Foundation, Mr. Keith Limberg, Mr. Malin Burnham/The Burnham Foundation, Dr. Ruth M. Covell, The Walton Family Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas B. Binkley, Mr. and Mrs. B. James Polak, and Dr. and Mrs. Robert Chang.

Also, we acknowledge The San Diego Foundation for its valuable in-kind support to ICF. ICF extends a warm thank you to all its donors.

HIGHLIGHTS OF A FEW GRANTS IN MEXICO

Earlier this year, ICF made small grants to non-profit groups in the Tijuana area to mark International Children's Fund. In a brief turn-around time, the money helped thousands of children and their families. Here is how some of the funding was invested:

Twenty-two children and their families attended specialized therapy for underage victims of sexual abuse.

Thirty children with disabilities and their families entered a program to build their self-esteem and improve their communication skills.

An ICF grant enabled a Healthy Children's Clinic to continue its vaccination program that protected l,356 children and 65l pregnant women, over an eight month period.

A group of women in a poor community formed a committee to offer small loans to enhance community projects, an ICF grant provided funding for three loans.

An ICF grant to Hospital Infantil de las California's allowed the center to perform five needed surgical procedures.

A program to help migrant children learn social skills and cope with familial difficulties was enhanced by an ICF grant that helped 194 children of approximately 95 families.

GRANTS IN CHINA

Over a period of two years ICF donor grants provided in rural China totaled $307,100. The funding supported the following efforts:

Half of the funding for a new school to replace an old structure destroyed by a flood; additional student desks, a basketball court, a library/teachers' lounge and office were also added.

Elementary school "scholarships" for four hundred children of destitute families for four years of their schooling in public facilities; one-year scholarships for 265 students.

Seven new or rebuilt one-room schools constructed in remote areas lacking transportation to larger communities.

Matching funds for a small agricultural community's new technical middle school for basic science and use of modern communications.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The International Children's Fund 2001"Request for Proposals" guidelines will be available from December 15, 2000 to February 1, 2001 and will be directly available to most of the nonprofits through email of fax.

The purpose of International Children's Fund is to provide program support to nonprofits in Baja California that work on improving the lives of children and families. Projects considered for funding vary widely, from education to health, from operational support for orphanages and community centers to children outreach theater productions, from community development projects to art and environmental projects.

The deadline to receive proposals is March 5, 2001. The grant recipients will be announced in late April 2001.
