PHILANTHROPIST
OF THE YEAR
Planning for the Philanthropists of the Year recognition
is underway. The event is tentatively scheduled for
a luncheon on Thursday, April 6, 2000 at the Hotel Camino
Real. Mrs. Christy Walton and Don Luis Fimbres Moreno
have been invited to chair this binational effort. Mrs.
Walton has confirmed her participation, and we are waiting
for Don Luis' response to make a formal announcement.
Our second Philanthropists
of the Year award will be presented to Sra. Aurora Rosas
Vda. de Arnaiz. A native of Chihuahua, Sra. de Arnaiz
knows our border region. She lived in San Diego where
she completed her studies in cosmetology. Later she
moved to Tijuana where she established her own business
and met General Ramón B. Arnaiz who she later
married. Upon General Arnaiz' death in 1960, Sra. de
Arnaiz took over the family real estate business. She
helped found Casa Eudes and over the years has supported
the Cruz Roja de Tijuana, the Club de Damas Leonas,
Caridad International, the San Diego Opera and the San
Diego Symphony, among others.
We are inviting Sr.
Manuel Arango, Mexican Center for Philanthropy Honorary
Chairman, to join us for the event and present the award
to Sra. de Arnaiz.
Although, our Chairman,
Jacinto Astiazarán, and Secretary, Yolanda Walther-Meade,
are coordinating the preliminary logistics of the event,
we will need the Board's support to secure a working
committee, sale of luncheon reservations and strong
underwriting for a successful event.
NOTE: Questions, suggestions
and comments by Board Members
regarding this report are most welcome. |
