The Advisory Committee of “The Friends of Wild Baja” Fund targets priority conservation strategies for funding, including:

  • Purchase of conservation easements and development rights to maintain lands as open space and protect key habitat
  • Development of sustainable fisheries and other compatible development strategies to help local communities
  • Environmental monitoring and enforcement
  • Education

Examples of specific projects include:

Patrolling: By funding park guards and operations posts, we can ensure continuous patrolling to control illegal fishing and hunting, the introduction of exotic species, and protection of critical marine and terrestrial protected areas.

Communications and Environmental Education: We promote communications strategies that educate and inform local residents, tour operators, and tourists about the importance of the national parks in conserving the region’s natural resources and economic livelihoods.

Tourism Management and Infrastructure: By funding the purchase and installation of buoys, latrines, trails, and signs, we will enhance the visitor experience in Baja California Sur’s national parks.

Emergency Fund: We make emergency funds available for the national parks to cover unexpected situations.
